Retro slides: Paris, October 1987 -- Père Lachaise Cemetery
Avenues of crypts await you at Père Lachaise, which is surely one of the the most fantastic -- and certainly one of the creepiest -- cemeteries anywhere on earth.
Over the centuries, trees have cracked and toppled crypts and monuments.
At the time, dozens of cats made themselves at home in and among the crypts.
The dead are crowded together in their opulent dwellings.
Some of the crypts are as large as small chapels.
Best door to a crypt ever.
As the light faded, one could imagine the place coming to life.
